Feb.7,'09 PESO is  proud to announce that former PESO debutante and PESO Scholarship awardee, Ms. Chloe Castro, has been accepted into the Rush Medical College entering class of 2009. Out of about 6,000 applicants across the country, only 200 people have been offered this position. Chloe’s academic credentials coupled with her demonstrated motivation for medicine and her vast array of experiences will enhance the overall educational experience at Rush. Congratulations, Chloe!

My chairmanship with the Minority Affairs Committee of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), gives me the distinct honor to identify and support various means of introducing engineering to youth, specifically ethnic minorities. This is my annual notification regarding ASCE's Minority Affairs Committee Scholarship program.  Last year (2007), we had seven applicants; all seven students were accepted and six students (representing 5 different high schools) were able to participate in the camp via the committee's scholarship.Thanks for your continued assistance in identifying students for this unique opportunity.
 The scholarship program for the Introduction to Engineering Program held over the summer at the University of Notre Dame is the group's signature event.  The attachments provide a description and an application (due April 15, 2008).  Carlos Nazario is leading this effort and his contact information is on the attachments.

    " Individuals  who make significant contributions to their communities by mentoring youth in need. These individuals should be adult role models from the community who serve as mentors to provide guidance and support to Chicago's youth. Mentors maybe active through community based organizations, corporate initiatives, school-based programs, after school programs or other outlets. Programs might include literacy promotion, job training and violence/drug prevention. Candidates might include coaches, volunteers or other community leaders who give their time and their energy to make a difference in the lives of young Chicagoans.  Recognition will be based on extraordinary accomplishments and initiatives of individual mentors in the community."

    		 Philippine Reef Exhibit will hold a benefit gala on Sat. May 3rd. This is to celebrate the opening of the John G. Shedd Aquarium's Wild Reef exhibit. This exhibit features Philippines' vast coral reefs and some 500 species of fishes. It is a 35,000 square foot display containing 750,000 gallons of sea water. PESO officers and members will actively participate in this event.

She will then serve as president in 2005.
